The Healthy Ireland 2018 Survey findings represent an incredibly important step in the direction of a tobacco-free society for Ireland, showing an increase in smokers turning to vaping products as a less harmful alternative to cigarettes.

Published in October 2018 (here), key findings from the Healthy Ireland 2018 Survey include:

  • 42% of those who have successfully quit smoking in the past 12 months did so through
    willpower alone
  • 41% of ex-smokers used e-cigarettes to quit
  • 4% currently use e-cigarettes and a further 12% of the population have tried them at
    some point
  • <1% of vaping product users are never smokers
